The underwater world is not just about beautiful colors for a photographer. In addition to the light, visibility and moments of calm observation that make photography possible, an experienced team that knows the safe diving routes of the region is also needed. This is why the experience of Bülent Şelli, which was reflected in the press in 2013 while explaining the diving culture of the Çandarlı Bay, is important.
A testimony from 2013
In the İHA news published on August 1, 2013, it is stated that photographer Bülent Şelli captured the sea creatures in the Çandarlı Bay. Şelli expresses his surprise that he did not get to know the region sooner, highlighting Sırrı Özşen's local knowledge and the guidance he provided him. According to the news, he used some of the photographs he produced in Çandarlı in his exhibitions.
This testimony alone is not an objective measurement that makes Çandarlı superior to other diving destinations. But it is a dated primary account of how the region figures into an artist's production process.
What does an underwater guide provide?
The needs of divers interested in photography may differ from standard tour expectations: it is necessary to take time to observe a creature from a distance, wait for suitable light, and maintain buoyancy while shooting. The local instructor plans the appropriate diving area and profile by evaluating the conditions of that day; The photographer's excitement does not override safety decisions.
