Kara Ada — Dive Sites Around Çandarlı

Discover the history, local context and underwater photography of Kara Ada near Çandarlı, Türkiye.

A name from the local underwater map

Kara Ada appears among the sites named by Sırrı Özşen in his 2013 description of the Çandarlı area. The name should not be confused with similarly named islands elsewhere in the Aegean.

What do we actually know?

The same article also mentions “Karadağ” as a point of reference for two underwater banks. We cannot assume Kara Ada and Karadağ are identical without a local map check.

The fascinating character of a dive site comes from the way rock, light, water movement and marine life meet. Yet conditions change, and historical descriptions must never be treated as current safety advice. The dive centre decides which sites may be visited, based on the day's conditions, permissions and participant qualifications.

Underwater photography and marine life

A photograph supports a local record only when its location, date and image-use rights are known. General Aegean images should not be treated as evidence of a sighting at this particular site.

A 2014 academic study documented 60 fish species in historical trawl samples from Çandarlı Bay. This is bay-wide research, not a promise that any of those species will be seen at Kara Ada. Actual sightings should be documented with dated local images.
