Why Dive in Çandarlı?

Discover Çandarlı’s coastal history, local diving heritage and underwater place names. Plan your visit with information from Derin Diving Center.

Çandarlı combines a historic coastal settlement with an underwater landscape whose local place names have been passed down by divers for years. Ancient Pitane and Çandarlı Castle tell part of the story above the surface. Below it, the language of Kız Kulesi, Kara Ada, two underwater banks and Maltepe Cape reflects a living diving culture.

A 2013 interview with instructor Sırrı Özşen mentions roughly twenty dive locations in the area. This is a historical statement, not a verified list of sites currently open to visitors. We are building an accurate atlas with genuine photos, on-site identification and current operational checks.

Research provides another perspective. A 2014 fisheries paper reported sixty fish species in historical trawl samples taken at five stations in Çandarlı Bay. Those findings describe the wider bay and should not be mistaken for a daily wildlife promise at any one dive site.

Whether you are considering a first introductory experience or are already a qualified diver, contact the local centre for the conditions and options appropriate to your experience. We believe an accurate, responsible view of the sea is far more valuable than exaggerated claims.
