The photo from a week ago does not show today's sea
The person preparing to dive asks "How many meters of visibility is there?" It is natural to ask. But visibility doesn't just depend on how clear the sea appears. Suspended particles, wave action, current, sunlight, recent weather events and movement of bottom sediment may be influential. One should not assume that an area that appears clear from the shore will provide the same conditions underwater.
The relationship between the wind and the diving spot
The direction of the coast and the shape of the land can create different sea conditions in different bays on the same day. A sheltered bay cannot be considered suitable for diving under all conditions; Surface boat movement, entry-exit security and underwater conditions are evaluated together. The team that knows the area should compare the daily forecast with the actual observation.
Why do words like “The water temperature is 25 degrees in summer” demand attention?
The temperature may be different at the surface and at depth. General climate data of the region helps in personal wetsuit and thermal comfort planning, but does not promise the same water temperature every day at a certain point. The time spent in water and the diver's sensitivity to cold are also important.
Planning for photographers
In macro work, strong light doesn't solve everything; Particle reflection (backscatter) may reduce image quality. Controlled buoyancy and appropriate distance selection without disturbing the group order are important for good shots. Dated shooting notes also enable comparison with later seasons.
Right information, right expectation
Before your visit, get information from the center about the conditions of that day. If a measurement like visibility or temperature is shared, ask where and when it was taken. Evaluating the weather forecast together with the team's observations at sea is a healthier start than the expectation created by an old photograph.
