Opening Sırrı Hoca's Archive: Çandarlı Diving Memory

Get to know Sırrı Özşen's traces in Çandarlı diving culture through real documents, old photographs and press archive.

Why are we setting up an archive?

Sometimes a single photo can be enough to describe the morning a dive boat leaves port on Çandarlı. Knowing who took that photo, in what year, and which diving spot was visited makes the story much more valuable. Sırrı Hoca's archive will not only be the promotion of the center, but also the memory of a coastal community's relationship with the underwater.

Traces visible in sources

In a news article dated June 10, 2013, Sırrı Özşen mentions dive sites around Çandarlı. The inclusion of local names such as Kız Kulesi, Kara Ada and two bankos in the written source is an important beginning for today's guide. Yeni Asır news dated 2016 mentions Derin Dalış Merkezi's coordination in coastal and underwater cleaning around Corci Island. Only real witnesses and documents can tell what stories happened between or after these two events.

Questions to ask Sırrı Hoca

What were the oldest diving spot names? Which document or photo shows the 1997 founding story? What is the name of the boat and its changes over time? Which photographer friends' important works were carried out in Çandarlı? How did he observe the change in sea conditions and diving culture?

Call to those who sent photos

An old group photo, boat photo or underwater image can contribute to the archive. However, we do not publish it without verifying who the photo belongs to, permission to share it on the web, and the rights of the people appearing. We do not label frames whose date we are not sure of by making up a year.

Living memory day by day

This series is not an interview made up from Sırrı Özşen's mouth. The future will be updated with real interviews, each date will be associated with the real source. Sırrı Özşen and In the press pages will be corporate extensions of this archive.
