A dive name sometimes describes the ground pattern
The name “İki Banko” in Çandarlı invites understanding of the underwater geography of the region. In diving narratives, the word bank is generally used for a formation that rises shallower than the surrounding bottom. However, local nomenclatures are not definitive bathymetric classifications. The inclusion of “bench” in the dive spot name does not indicate that a shallow platform has a single height or constant depth.
Rocky debris is a practical expression describing the irregular structure formed by stones and blocks of different sizes extending from the slope or shore to the sea. Cavities, shadowed surfaces, and exposed protrusions may occur. Reef can also describe a rocky habitat in everyday diving language; We must not forget that in the scientific context, rocky reefs and coral reefs are different from each other. It is not correct to call every rock in the Aegean a "coral reef".
How do these shapes affect life?
Shadowed rock bottoms and illuminated upper surfaces are not the same. While sponges and covert creatures attract attention on one side, algae, small invertebrates or moving fish can be seen on another point. These probabilities are a general ecological description, not a claim that all species are consistently found in a particular Çandarlı bank.
Essential information for the diver
Just because a place is a "bank" does not prove that it is suitable for a person's experience. Decided based on boat traffic, water movement, visibility, valid permits and dive plan. The elevation shown on the map cannot replace the current route and safety briefing. For this reason, we prefer to explain its history, visual character and the evaluation of the local instructor rather than giving the exact entrance coordinates or technical route on the websites.
Small note to the photographer
Taking dramatic wide-angle photography alone isn't enough to document a rock field. Combining a surface photograph, a general view of the environment, a close-up of the same formation, and a dated observation record creates a more permanent archive. Images taken without moving objects or disturbing bottom creatures are the basis of this guide.
